Oct. 1951 Founding Committee of CNU organized.
Jan. 1952 CNU opened with five colleges: College of Engineering, College of Agriculture, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Commerce and the Medical School.
Jun. 1952 Celebration of the University's opening (June 9)
Graduate School opened with seven departments in both Master's and Doctoral degree programs, including the graduate program of Kwangju Medical School.
Sep. 1953 University Library opened.
Feb. 1954 College of Law established as the Department of Law was transferred from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Jul. 1956 University Press established.
Apr. 1957 University Museum established.
Oct. 1957 Student Health Center opened.
Apr. 1958 The College of Commerce moved to the Yongbong campus in Gwangju from Mokpo City.
May 1961 R.O.T.C. program established.
Jan. 1962 Nursing High School reorganized as Junior College of Nursing.
Dec. 1969 General Studies Division established.
Feb. 1969 Graduate School of Business Administration established.
Dec. 1971 College of Education established with three Departments of Education, Home Economics Education, and Mathematics Education.
Nov. 1972 Pilot College Program started with College of Education and College of Commerce. Nursing Academy of Medical School promoted to Professional School of Nursing.
Nov. 1973 Pilot College Program expanded to College of Engineering, College of Agriculture, and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Jan. 1975 Pilot College Program expanded to College of Law.
Mar. 1975 Graduate School of Education opened.
Nov. 1975 Middle School established in College of Education.
Jul. 1976 High School established in College of Education.
Jul. 1978 Computer Center established.
Jan. 1979 Professional School of Nursing in the Medical School promoted to Junior College of Nursing. College of Engineering reorganized into College of Chemical Engineering.
Nov. 1979 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences divided into College of Humanities & Social Sciences and College of Natural Sciences.
Dec. 1979 Graduate School of Public Administration established.
Mar. 1980 General Studies Division abolished.
Oct. 1980 College of Dentistry established with Department of Dental Surgery. College of Chemical Engineering and College of Commerce reorganized into Colleges of Engineering and Business Administration respectively.
Oct. 1981 College of Arts established with three Departments of Fine Arts, Music, and Korean Traditional Music. College of Pharmacy established with two Departments of Pharmacy and Manufacturing Pharmacy.
Mar. 1984 Dormitories built
Feb. 1986 Junior College of Nursing, which belonged to the CNU Medical School, closed.
Mar. 1987 College of Humanities and Social Sciences reorganized into College of Humanities and College of Social Sciences.
Mar. 1988 Department of Veterinary Medicine in College of Agriculture raised to College of Veterinary Medicine.
Mar. 1989 Graduate School of Industry & Technology newly established.
Feb. 1993 Educational Equipment Service Center instituted.
Mar. 1993 University Hospital became a public corporation.
Aug. 1994 College of Engineering selected for its excellence and funded by the Ministry of Education.
Apr. 1995 Hormone Research Center instituted.
Oct. 1995 Automobile Engineering Center organized.
Aug. 1996 15th President of CNU, inaugurated.
Feb. 1997 Information & Telecommunications Institute organized.
Council of Information System Planning established.
Aug. 1997 Cultural & Religious Studies Institute opened.
May 1998 Regional Research Center (Electric Components), Technology Business Incubator and Virtual University Consortium established.
May 1999 Oh Yes Center opened.
Aug. 1999 Photonics and Optical Technology Research Institute establihed.
Institute of European Studies established.
Sep. 1999 Selected as a host university of Brain Korea 21 national research project
